State Member for Dalrymple Shane Knuth today said the recent grant from the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing’s Get Going Places and Spaces Program to Atherton Tablelands Rail Trail, was a big win for the region.

“I was more than happy to support the grant application and I am pleased to see the grant was successful to aid in the construction of a shared trail from Platypus Park, Atherton to Hastie’s Road; a distance of approximately 2km,” said Mr. Knuth

The grant will also enable construction of three mountain bike trails within the Atherton Mountain Bike Park and make a significant contribution to the overall Tablelands Trails Network.

“The shared trail will be constructed within the railway corridor, running parallel to the existing railway line which is being restored by the Atherton-Herberton Historic Railway Group (AHHR). It is a great example of all stakeholders working together to develop a valuable tourist attraction to highlight the special history in the region.

Everyone in the Atherton Tablelands region wins from this project and I will continue to push for additional funding through the State Government in 2018.
